The global headquarters of MoneyGram International will soon move from Minneapolis to Dallas. The company has already transferred some workers and hired a few new employees in Dallas. MoneyGram plans to have 75 employees by March 2011 and 150 employees by 2012.
All of these new jobs in Dallas will be for high-paying executive positions and will have an average salary of $115,000 per year, according to the Dallas Business Journal.
MoneGram also plans to keep about 800 technology workers in Minneapolis and 700 call center employees in Denver. The company has about 2,600 employees in 23 offices throughout the nation.
The company chose Dallas for its new headquarters over other cities like Minneapolis and Denver. Dallas officials are proposing a $278,500 economic development grant and a 10-year, 50 percent equipment tax abatement that would save MoneyGram about $123,000.
The decision also was based in part on many recent organizational and management changes and a new CEO who wants a "fresh headquarters." Company officials noted Dallas's growing economy and the Dallas airport as additional draws.
"Locating the company's headquarters in Dallas will provide MoneyGram access to multi-lingual employees with global experience, and enable the company to operate under a more business-friendly environment as we expand our business," CEO Pamela Patsley said in a press release.
