The Manpower Employment Outlook Survey for Q4 2010 found that the majority of employers throughout the United States plan to keep a steady workforce in the coming months. That's based on interviews with more than 18,000 employers throughout the country.
The survey found that 71 percent of employers plan to make no changes in their staff levels, while 15 percent plan to hire employees, 11 percent expect to see a decline in their workforce, and 3 percent are unsure of their hiring plans for Q4.
Those figures indicate that hiring will remain relatively stable when compared to Q3 2010 and employment will increase when compared to Q4 of last year. Employers in the Midwest and South are expecting better hiring outcomes than those in the Northeast and West.
The survey revealed good news for the Phoenix area, as 15 percent of local employers are planning to hire more workers this quarter, which is higher than the 9 percent of businesses planning to make layoffs in the next three months.
The best opportunities to find jobs will come from the durable goods manufacturing, information, financial activities, professional and business services, and leisure and hospitality industries.
Throughout the West as a whole, 13 percent of employers plan to hire workers and 13 percent plan to lose workers during Q4, meaning there will be no net employment gain through the end of the year. Unfortunately, this is the most reserved hiring outlook among all four regions.
Those figures will result in a slight decrease in hiring when compared to Q3 of this year and a slight increase in hiring when compared to Q4 2009.
