The U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency recently announced that it will provide $7.8 million in funding for 27 business centers throughout the nation. The funding will be used to promote job creation and economic growth of minority companies.
The MBDA Business Center in Phoenix, which is operated by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, will receive $290,000 of funding per year. Two new centers in Cleveland, Ohio, and Denver, Colo., also are among those to benefit from the funding.
The main goal of an MBDA Business Center is to help minority entrepreneurs gain access to markets, contracts, and capital. They also offer business consulting services to support growth in today's global economy.
"The MBDA Business Center program has shown remarkable success, and with a renewed focus on job creation in high-growth industries that leverages global business opportunities and teaming arrangements, we've raised the performance bar," MBDA National Director David Hinson said in a statement. "MBCs are catalysts for minority business development, and by investing in these centers at the local level, we will see reverberating effects throughout the national economy."
All of the centers slated to receive funding are strategically located in areas that have a significant minority business presence.
The centers that will receive funding, as well as the amount of money they will get each year, include:
