Owners of an existing pub are looking to create more bar jobs in the greater Phoenix area.
Moirbia Scottsdale LLC recently announced its plans to open Maggie Fox's Public House in Scottsdale later this year. The new bar would create about 50 new jobs, including positions for a general manager, head chef, and assistant manager, which already have been filled.
Plans to open the new bar have been in the works since last year, but were delayed after the company had problems getting a city permit. If the plan goes through this time, the bar will be located in a vacant building near Scottsdale Road and Second Street in Scottsdale.
According to an article by The Arizona Republic, the project will cost about $1.5 million, with construction slated to begin in March. It will take four to five months to finish the bar, which would open around Labor Day.
"The building will look nothing like it looks now," Dominic Jones, managing member of Moirbia, said. "(Maggie Fox's) will be 80 percent of the north side of the building with a patio on the north side. It's much more pastel colors, a more holiday feel to it. I'm inclined to call it a Caribbean theme. It's Spanish influence on an Irish style."
Moirbia also operates Robbie Fox's Public House in Tempe, which is considered to be a much darker-style pub. The jobs created by the company's new bar will benefit the local economy, which continues to fare well.
During December, the Phoenix area's unemployment rate dropped to 8.4 percent after staying at 8.5 percent for two consecutive months, keeping well below the national average at the time of 9.4 percent.
The Phoenix-Mesa-Glendale area employed about 1,741,700 workers during December, which is up from 1,738,600 workers during November and a 1.7 percent increase from the previous year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
