There are plenty of in-demand Nevada healthcare jobs.
Healthcare is one of the most popular and growing industries in the nation. It was one of the few industries that was able to thrive throughout the recession, and because there will always be a need for healthcare professionals, there will always be available jobs. Nevada is no exception to this rule.
Nevada's education and health services industry employed 100,700 workers during February, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is up from 99,800 workers during January and a 4.5 percent increase from last year.
The majority of the in-demand healthcare occupations require an associate degree or other formal training, while a small number require only short or moderate-term on-the-job training. A few positions require a bachelor's or master's degree or higher.
According to the Nevada Career Information System, the most in-demand occupations as of 2006 that require an associate degree or formal training include:
- Registered nurses - 15,667 jobs
- Nursing aides, orderlies and attendants - 5,924 jobs
- Licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses - 2,810 jobs
- Dental hygienists - 1,492 jobs
- Radiologic technologists and technicians - 1,324 jobs
- Medical secretaries - 1,214
- Emergency medical technicians and paramedics - 926 jobs
- Medical and clinical laboratory technologists - 867 jobs
- Surgical technologists - 662 jobs
- Respiratory therapists - 636 jobs
- Cardiovascular technologists and technicians - 470 jobs
The most in-demand occupations that require short or moderate-term on-the-job training include medical assistants with 3,124 jobs and home health aides with 2,902 jobs. Those that require a bachelor's degree include medical and health services managers with 1,552 jobs and physician assistants with 613 jobs.
The in-demand occupations that require a master's degree or higher include: pharmacists with 2,025 jobs; general dentists with 1,194 jobs; physical therapists with 1,233 jobs; and occupational therapists with 602 jobs.
